Mama Roux'

Lunch today at Mama Roux' in Cromwell on Main Street. Always a good meal here and today was no exception.

Dining alone I had the Mama Roux' Wrap: Grilled Whole Wheat Tortilla wrapped around a Spicy Scallion Tuna Salad with Tomato, Bacon and PepperJack Cheese. The Fries had been dusted in Chili Powder.

Kim [Mama Roux] came over and we 'Bah Humbugged' the Holiday Season. Then she sent over a cup of freshly cooked Broccoli Cheddar Soup. Wow!

blognote: the wrap and fries came to $7.49 with tax.

Baci Grill

Lunch today [yes, another lunch out] at Baci Grill in Cromwell. Always a good place for lunch and today was no exception.

Prime Beef Burger, ordered and delivered rare, with side of Pasta Salad and some lettuce and tomato and Fries [$6.00]. It was reported to be delicious.

Other entrée [two of us] was the Tuna Salad Sandwich. Yes, a tuna salad sandwich but with a lot of difference. This was Ahi Tuna mixed with Capers, Red Peppers and a Garlic Mayonnaise on toasted Ciabatta Bread [$7.00]. This was served with good Fries and the side of Pasta Salad.

bloginfo: Baci Grill, 134 Berlin Road, Cromwell, CT and is right off exit 21 on Route 91. The telephone is 613.2224.

blognote: same family as Tuscany Garden downtown in Middletown. Evidently they have sold BrewBakers on Main Street [and it ain't the same].

Red Lobster

Red Lobster for lunch today.

New England Sampler for appetizer came with Scallops wrapped in Bacon, Fried Clam Strips, Seafood stuffed Mushroom Caps [$9.50]. The Cheese Biscuits are always wonderful!

One entrée was the Broiled Seafood Platter [$13.99] with lots of good stuff that I didn't see as I was busy with my Manhattan Clam Chowder [$3.99]. My entrée was the Seafood Caesar Salad with Shrimp and Langostino [$10.25].

Everything was tasty. Lunch prices were better than dinner. Service was good. They try hard to make it not like a 'franchisey' place.

Dakota for Lunch

The menu says the prime rib is 'thinly shaved' on the Prime Rib Sandwich. But is was really two very thick slices. Came on a Kaiser Roll with Horseradish Sauce and a little pot of 'jus'. The French Fries were really good. [$10.50]

Other entree was the Lodge Style Chicken Sandwich. This fit the menu descripton of a Wood-grilled Chicken Breast topped with Canadian Bacon and Cheddar Cheese and Lettuce and Tomato on a Kaiser Roll, also with French Fries. [$8.95]

Dessert should have been split but we each had Our Famous Homemade Mud Pie with Coffee Ice Cream on an Oreo Crust topped with Chocolate Fudge, Mocha Cream and Slivered Almonds. We each finished ours! [$5.75]

glas in Glastonbury

Good dining experience at glas last night. The menu says it features Modern American Cuisine.

Wheat Beer, 2 Malbec reds and a Margarita [followed by a Jindalee Chardonnay] and a basket of bread started us out.

4 entrees:
A Greek Salad [$8] with the Beef Short Ribs over Handmade Cavatelli with mushrooms and mushroom chips. [$24]
Pork Shank, Chicken-Fried Style, with Creamy Cheddar Grits and Pan Gravy [$20] with side of Sugar Snap Peas [$6]
Duck 'Steak' with Duck Confit Hash Browns and a Port Wine Reduction [$24]
and pour moi, Steak 'Bambo" a Hanging Tenderloin with a Potato/Malanga Lasagna and Mushroom Mojo [$25]

A couple of Espresso and a Cappucino later and the bill reduced by 2 CPTV cards came to $35 each including tip.

blognotes: Expensive but worth it. The service could stand a bit of refining. The room is fully glamorous with glass sculptures and interesting table settings. A place to revisit; maybe for lunch [the menu looks excellent].

bloginfo: This is the old Bamboleo at 2935 Main Street in Glastonbury. Reservations a must: 860.657.glas

Vote for Ruby!

Ruby Tuesday after voting was today's lunch destination.

The Avocado Bacon Turkey Burger won hands down. Or actually, hands up to the mouth. The Fries are excellent too. The other entree was the Prime Burger and it came in second.

Gaudi and curry?

Saw the Gaudi documentary at Real Art Ways. Very interesting especially since we had just been in Barcelona a few weeks ago. The photography was superb but the film needed a little more narration. Full house at RAW; who were all those people?

Dinner at Thai Gardens on Main Street in Middletown [where else?]. Started with a SingThai beer and a pot of Spicy Seafood Soup. Whole bunch of entrees to share: Bangkok Delight [watch out for the kitchy named entrees] with seafood and pineapple, Pad Thai [deconstructed] always a sure bet, Masaman Curry with Chicken [instead of beef], Seafood Fried Rice, Black Olive Fried Rice with Cashews [always my favorite] and lots of White Rice. The five of us just about finished everything on the table, a nice variety of tastes.

Dessert back at my house. I served a Frasier Cake* which was 'layers of Almond Macaroons, Strawberries and a delicate Chantilly Cream'. It would have been even better if it had been served at room temperature. *Oops guess that shows the 'old family secret recipe' had been frozen, hmmmmm!

the fire hydrant is gone

Ate at Chale Ipanema tonight. Haven't been back for months.

The fire hydrant that ended up imbedded in my car's back door is gone. The waitress said it was there last night and gone today. An orange cone marks its demise. I hope they don't replace it; it is a menace to society and all god-fearing gourmands.

A Mojito and two Brahma beers graced the table [and their company was enjoyed by all].

I had the Caldo Verde to start and the Feijoada to finish. What a meal the caldo was rich and thick [potatoes?] with lots of collard greens swimming around. The feifoada was the traditional serving of black beans and meat and smoked sausage. The condiments always amaze me: salsa, ground nuts, orange sections and a rich brown sauce. There was also a plate of rice and more collard greens.

The other entrees were Beefsteak with Three Sauces over Mashed Potatoes and a special of Mahimahi in a Wasabi Mango Sauce over Coconut Rice.

I had a Latte for dessert. The other desserts were Key LIme Pie and Coconut Creme Brulee.

Service was, as usual, fantastic but if one more cell phone went off I would have gone ballistic!
