Nardelli's Deli

Picked up some lunch at Nardelli's for an early Mothers' Day lunch with Mom on the hill in Andover. Got the Italian Combo grinder filled with a medley of good Italian cold cuts and the trimmings along with a container of vinegary coleslaw. Two cups of delicious and creamy Chocolate Mousse were the ending to a good meal. Nice service and a bargain!

Zerio's [CT]

Dropped in to Zerio's in the Willowbrook Plaza in Cromwell for lunch. Running around town with lots to do so took the path of least resistance.

This is a nice little deli/restaurant that I have missed in the past. Ordered an Eggplant Wrap [$6.50]; whole wheat wrap, roasted peppers and cheese. It could have been hotter but I was fussing with my iphone camera which could have been the reason. Large amount of eggplant but a little bland. Filling though!

Also had a Strawberry Melon FUZE with only 15 calories, not bad. Have to try this place again as the paninis look very good; meatball/ricotta seems to be the specialty.

Fresh Pickings' [CT]

The search for the best chicken wings in the area is over. Eureka, they are found at Fresh Pickings' in Wethersfield. This little deli, produce stand, specialty foods market is located in the Goff Brook Plaza next to Ginza [which  I will visit soon!].

The wings [2/$1] are tasty, meaty and spiced just right. I had them for dinner and they didn't last long!

They also sell Calvo Tuna in Olive Oil which is by far the best canned tuna in the world [well, maybe the country or maybe the state or whatever]. It comes in a package of three 80 gram cans for $4.69.

Big Apple Deli [FL]

Sleep in day after working the Holiday Party. Big breakfast and then some errands to do like returning the linens and dessert table. Right next door is one of the everpresent Big Apple Deli so we get some take out. I get the Brisket on an Onion Roll and the others had Corned Beef. Mine came with coleslaw [miniscule portion of excellent juicy coleslaw] and a great pickle. Life is good in deli land!

Metro Deli [NY]

Made it to Scarsdale before we had to stop and eat; almost made it home. Used the cellphone GPS to find us something and almost missed it. But it is not something to miss!

Someone was having a deli attack and had to have a Knish, a square one which was then smeared with mustard. Delicious.

Two hero [grinders to me]: one ham and cheese, the other roast beef. Extra for the hero bread, the tomato, the cheese, give me a break! I had the Chicken Salad wrap [$8.25] on honey whole wheat wrap [so healthful am I] and bacon and lettuce. It was huge [two meals, already] with coleslaw and a pickle.

Baltyk European Deli

Overstuffed, messy and delicious; that's the bio for my sandwich today. Stopped at the Baltyk European Deli on Wethersfield Avenue after a meeting in East Hartford. I was going to get a $5 Footlong at you know where but saw this place and stopped. Glad I did!

I had a Sweet Capicola and Polish Bologna sandwich [$3.50] on a hard roll with a strong Polish Cheese, lettuce, tomato, mustard and mayo. Bought a Nectarine nectar [99¢] in a great little bottle.

Rein's Deli

We were starving after viewing 'Aida' live from the Met in Manchester but weren't really interested in Egyptian food. So we headed for Rein's Deli in Vernon. Only one couple ahead of us in line so got a table very quickly.

Of course there were pickles. And then an order of Potato Pancakes with applesauce for starters. One Chopped Liver sandwich with onions on rye and a Vernon: Chicken Salad, Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato on toasted whole wheat [they were out of pumpernickel]. Ended with two coffees and a Chocolate Layer cake with chocolate cream cheese frosting.

What a meal, what a day, what a life!

Rein's Deli

Early lunch here today to introduce a 'misplaced Long Islander' to the best deli around.

Shared two sandwiches: Pastrami on rye and Chopped Liver with raw onions on rye. Both delectable but the chopped liver is and will always be my favorite. Pickles on the table had changed to little bitty ones with lots of chopped garlic in the dish.

blognote: In my pocket I had three rugelach homemade by my guest. Didn't pull them out and eat them for dessert with the rest of my coffee [good decision].
