ROOST

Had a late breakfast/early lunch at ROOST [formerly Viva] in the Hartford Marriott today as part of a YELP Elite Event. Got there a bit early as I was between choices on my To-Do list. We were able to pick from a menu and I chose Chicken and Waffles which I thought would be a good example to blog.

The meal came out as a take-out order even though the dining room was available. This was a bit unwelcoming as I could just have eaten it in the parking lot. It also affected the quality of the presentation. I undid my bag and set up on one of tables and had a decent meal. The two chicken fritters were sumptuous, hot and very fresh. The waffles, however, had been steamed up in the container and no longer were crisp. The syrup was good and the whipped Honey Jalapeño Butter was a delicious wake-up call. All in all as any free meal is...it was enjoyed immensely.

Ate all of the waffles and only one of the two large chicken fritters so my chicken on salad meal tonight was very satisfying.

Embassy Suites Bar [SC]

Three of us stayed at the Embassy Suites [Hilton] for two nights in Columbia, SC to attend the Graduation Ceremonies at Fort Jackson.

The included breakfasts were great with omelets to order. But the highlight of the dining component of the SC trip was the 'snack' we had at the bar after a 'mess hall' meal for Family Day.

One French Dip Sandwich [$10.95] with Fries and Onion Rings. The sandwich was on Sourdough bread with Provolone cheese. Then I was in for half of a shared Walnut and Goat Cheese Salad [$7.95] with crunchy walnuts, currants and a raspberry vinaigrette. Good thing we shared the salad as it was quite large and very rich. Also got some fresh rolls. My Pinot Grigio added to the enjoyment.
