Vito's Pizza To Go

Great to see Chef Rob Mafucci again in his new place near me, Zito's To Go. The Margarita Pizza was delicious and the crust was perfect. It brought back so many good memories. Now that I have found the place I will be a steady customer. Can't wait to hear about the new truck, The Rolling Stone. And by the way theTiramisu was out of this world.

Irish Session @Parkville Market

The every other Monday in Spring the Irish Session here is terrific. There were a ton of players last night with all levels of musicality but the core of the night was Irish. It was just like sitting in someone's home there in my old sod. The Local [the bar upstairs] was filled with happy people. We ate from the Meltdown on Park conveniently located downstairs among the many places to purchase food. There is no entrance fee to the Session and food is definitely welcomed in the bar. I had a Thomas Hooker Irish Red Ale.

Picnic Basket

Keep driving past the Picnic Basket but today I turned around a went in. Hadn't been here for a long while but remembered  some good food from here. Got the Chicken Marsala with Mushrooms to go and they are smashing especially when served with my added mashed potatoes and corn. It was very well prepared and so easy to heat up in the oven. Also got a good looking Beef Lasagne which I am looking forward to later this week. The chef in charge is so knowledgable and was helpful is showing me dinners that could be frozen. Close to home, delicious and well priced!

pupusa attack...

I had heard about this little restaurant, driven by it twice, eaten in it's former life and finally succumbing to my pupusa attack had a great meal. Morán Restaurant in the outskirts of Manchester is the place to go for Salvadoran food. These pupusas were essentially a thick griddle cake made with cornmeal flour and in El Salvador are considered the national dish.

Started with a complimentary basket of chips and great salsa. I ordered an ice cold Maracuya [passion fruit/parcha] which is one of my favorites. My order consisted of three pupusas filled with minced beef and quesillo cheese. They had just been perfectly made with excellent grilling...delicious and filling. The plate was accompanied with a little serving of tangy coleslaw [jalapeño] and a dipping sauce [not the salsa roja]. All in all it was very comforting!

Service was personal. I ordered in Spanish but all front of the house personnel were Spanish/English speaking. A very homey place to sit and enjoy some good food.

La Piastra

I just had La Piastra's Buffalo Chicken Risotto Cakes [from  my freezer] and it is not on this month's menu! I need to buy at least a dozen to keep on hand. The outside is crunchy and the gooey yummy inside is so delicious with just the right bite. It was served on a bed of arugula with goat cheese and crushed walnuts. I used the dipping sauce as a dressing on the salad. This is truly gourmet to go and a masterpiece!

bloginfo: I use the Rocky Hill location but there is one in Glastonbury also.

Vivian's Mediterranean Market

What a day today. We wandered over here to the Mediterranean Market for a bite to eat while waiting for my rental car to replace my car which I managed to wreck in the parking lot. Were here to see the Turner Exhibit at the Mystic Seaport Museum but ended up seeing a tow truck.

But all turned out well as soon as we entered this establishment. Greeted warmly by the host and mesmerized by the display of food to go. Starving we each opted for a Lamb Shawarma Pita. The meat was marinated and so tender and the garlic sauce creamy with roasted vegetables added to the mix. It took my mind off of the accident where no one was injured and restored my faith in all culinary remedies.

Whole Foods Pizza Bar

Was running around doing extra late minute type shopping in Glastonbury this afternoon and stopped at Whole Foods for a slice of pizza. It was a good-sized piece of White Pizza for $3.79 and it was delicious. There were at least eight types of pizza to choose from. This one caught my eye immediately with its glazed top of several types of cheese with the ricotta being the best. Ate it there at a window seat watching all other late shoppers coming and going.

blognote: This is a stock picture as I didn't remember to take a picture until I was about half-through the deliciousness.

Taino Smokehouse

Needed some BBQ! Went to Taino Smokehouse to get what I needed. Good front of the house welcome in their small dining area. Easy to order to-go and the wait was very short. Got a Plate: 1/2 rack of delicious ribs, cornbread with honey butter, tangy coleslaw and creamed spinach [a little salty this time]. Great meal.

blognote: next time they offer me napkins on a BBQ to-go order I won't be stupid and say I don't need anymore...'nuff said

Six Pence Pie

Found the Six Pence Pie Company at a winter market and bought some good lunch. The picture is a chicken, artichoke, spinach, bleu cheese delicious pie [$5] that I just finished eating. The 4cheese mini quiche [$2.50] was too good to resist and got eaten in the car on the way home [so no picture]. The website does have some good pix and info. Remember I try to hyperlink all establishments, so click away.
