Kob Jai Thai

We ate practically alone in this glorious restaurant...the colors of Thai culture here in the Kob Jai Thai restaurant surrounding us. I needed the solace of vibrant food on this eve of a saddening event in my life several years ago. The flavors of the food and the friendly service helped me concentrate on all that is still good in my life. The egg rolls were crispy and hot, the chicken wings were fresh and tasty but my entrée helped bring back sweet memories of Bangkok. I ordered something new: Garlic Pepper with Crispy Chicken. The plating was superb and the new taste was enlivening. A contrast of sweet and peppery floated over the Jasmine rice while the crunchy chicken made this dish alive. My day was now complete and I will live through tomorrow with these tastes still in my mouth.

Phở

On a dark and dreary day I stopped in at Pho and Grill nearby in Cromwell. Their pho is quite good with a tasty broth and noodles. The add-ons arrive separately encased in plastic wrap; freshThai basil, bean sprouts, sliced jalapeño and a lemon wedge. I chose the meatball option but would probably add the rare flank steak next time. Added a touch of Hoisin sauce and sriracha for more depth. This made for a homey meal on a cold day. Brought the remainder of the broth home for another adventure here.

Their sanitary measures are excellent and seating is well distanced. The service is excellent and will definitely go back.

Kob Jai Thai Restaurant

Took a bus load of my elder neighbors here for a fantastic lunch. They sat all 13 of us at a beautifully appointed long table. Eating here at Kob Jai is a great experience. The food is fresh and true to the Thai taste. I ordered my favorite Pad See Eeu but had to switch with my neighbor's Crispy Chicken over Fried Rice. She felt it was too spicy and loved mine and hers was perfect for me.

PHO 88

Working lunch today at PHO 88 which turned out to be very productive and quite tasty. We shared an order of Shrimp Spring Rolls which were very fresh. They each had a Pho Bowl. I opted for the Vietnamese Pancake, my favorite, with tofu instead of meat [$10]. The Jasmine Iced Tea rocks...sweet but nice!

Mai Lan

Had an urge for a Báhn Mi so headed for Mai Lan which had been getting some good press about their 'Vietnamese Grinders'. I got the grilled pork version with a cup of tea [$3.98]. It was delicious with thinly sliced pieces of pork and the requisite carrot, cucumber and cilantro on great bread. It was really just a snack and next time will order two different kinds!

PHO 68

When a restaurant has pho in the name and everyone in the restaurant is slurping pho and raving about how delicious it is, you order pho right? Wrong! Here I was at Pho 68 and was ordering bán mì which I have been craving for weeks.

I started with an order of Cha Glo [Fried Egg Roll $4.50] one of the best yet. Then the Bánh Mì Thit Bo [Vietnamese Grilled Beef Sandwich $3.50 with mayonnaise sauce, mint, scallion, chili peppers]. This was the delicious sandwich I was waiting for and now other sandwiches will always be lacking. So next time the pho, honest [what a great excuse to return]. The restaurant is closed tomorrow for TET but I will be back soon!
