Millwright's Outdoors

Paris on my birthday...that's what I try to do. The pandemic interrupted that travel pattern but ended up at Millwright's Outside. Absolutely as good a meal here as I would have had there! Chef Tyler is a genius! I have eaten here before especially at the Julia Child Birthday Celebrations so had high expectations [tempered by the current COVID-19 situation, of course] and was blown away. This was on Friday evening, my birthday eve, and have waited to write this review because I have been reliving the meal since then. Every course was perfect from the Smoked Salmon Rilette to the Lobster and Corn Bisque to the Bella Bella Duck Breast and finally the Upside Down Plum Cake. The service was perfection [except for the coffee mishap] and the Sauvignon Blanc Sancerre [which I would have ordered in Paris] was the perfect accompaniment to a perfect meal. Can I say more? NO! So I guess I have to go back and order some different items.

Carbone's Prime

Celebrated my birthday with family here tonight. Labor Day weekend but we were able to get a 5 hightop in the rear dining room. Great service and quite a good meal. I started with the Fresh Ricotta with honey and pistachio and it was superb. The Short Ribs over Polenta and Broccoli Rabe was very good and a large amount of the meat is home waiting for another meal. Cappuccino for dessert but Emily, our server, made a little birthday cake with candle out of a pile of Biscotti.

Tried out Happy Hour today and it was packed. Got there just before 4pm and found two of the last six seats at the bar. Pinot Grigio was $4 a glass and the only white wine offered [Pinot Noir only red]. Oysters were $1 each and very good and had six. The half Antipasto [$8] was a plentiful plate of various goodies. The ordered the Calamari [$8] for a good portion of fresh and crisp goodness. Had a half glass extra of Pinot Grigio [$2] before leaving. Will definitely go back!

Newly opened I visited the bar to scope out the place. Nice atmosphere with a real steakhouse vibe with dark wood and deep colors. Service was great but kitchen was a little slow as it might just opening the dining room. I have been to Carbone's in Hartford and loved through the years and still do. The new place in Bloomfield has never got my attention or love but Carbone's Prime will be somewhere I frequent.

Tried the Polpette [$13] which sounds a little high for a meatball but this is a 7oz ball stuffed with mozzarella, mortadella and hot capicola smothered in a good red sauce accompanied by a piece of grilled garlic bread! Thought I needed a side so ordered the broccoli rabe with garlic [$7]. The bread at the table before and during the meal is quite good and the herbed butter is delicious and at the correct temperature to be smeared lovingly on the bread. Hate frozen butter! I don't usually order Chianti but got a good pour [$9]. All in all, a very good meal for the price of some great appetizers.
