The Capitol Grille

Dinner at The Capitol Grille during Hartford Restaurant Week last night. We had reservations but had to wait a bit. Had drinks in the bar...my order of a Negroni [$12.50] turned into a Bombay cocktail which is definitely stronger than my usual drink. Didn't figure out why the drink seemed so different until I checked the bill when I got home. With the Negroni making such a comeback it was surely a surprise.

The $30.17 menu had several interesting options. We both had the Caesar Salad which was a distinct throwaway. The Grana Padano croutons were practically non-existent and it was very lightly dressed. Now onto the good news. Both orders of the bone in dry aged New York Strip were delicious and perfectly cooked. This came with a family style Sam's mashed potatoes and French beans with Heirloom tomatoes both were a nice addition to our meat choice. Dessert for  me was a passable Classic Crème Brûlée but the winner was the Flourless Chocolate Espresso Cake.

Bill was not correct as it included 2 Manhattan Cocktails which we did not have. I had paid the cocktail bar bill before going to the table. It was from another table but was a reminder to always check your bill.
