That gift certificate started to grow mold so before it got too old I took advantage of it at 2hopewell in South Glastonbury. Called ahead and reserved a table in the Tavern for three at 7:00. Table was ready in a minute or so and the place was rocking. So rocking that you could not have a conversation at the table because of the low-ceilinged acoustics, family gathering and later the live music. Upstairs it was just as crowded so service sucked. The wait for the food was bearable but the dirty app plates left on the table and the non-refreshed glasses made for a sloppy dinner time.
All in all, the food was good to great. I really enjoyed the app of calamari fried cherry pepper, fennel & pomodoro sauté $9 and my entrée of braised short rib of beef black pepper gnocchi [overly peppered], chorizo, tomatoes, mushroom beurre rouge & fried onions $29. The two other entrées were beef tenderloin tips wild mushrooms [super] & onions, mashed, chef’s vegetable, port wine demi for $25 and basil pesto shrimp fettuccini leeks, shallots, parmesan, cherry tomatoes, spinach $24.
Desserts were a White Chocolate Mousse in an Almond Tuile and a Trio of Sorbet.
