Milagros Spanish Restaurant CLOSED!

Drove by the restaurant yesterday and saw a sign in the window: OMG Sushi Coming Soon. Opps. Went by today and the restaurant is CLOSED!!! So sorry that Chef Ellie didn't make it at this location. Hope she finds another place soon as we all love her and her food. Best Wishes Chef Ellie!

Visited Chef Ellie again today after a long hiatus [she did cater a joint birthday party in July though]. Need a little lunch after a long day driving around Marlborough and Hartford. Had an Empanadilla de Carne y Queso [$2] and a Canoa [$3] one of my favorite street foods. This is a split ripe platano filled with ground beef and tomato and topped with cheese. It gets its name from the shape of a canoe.

Also tried a new dessert [gratis] which is a traditional Dominican dish called Habichuela con Dulce. It is a delicious dish of sweet beans, dulce de leche and some other secret ingredients and for a more esoteric flair topped with  round of purple Vietnamese yam. It was delicious.

Just found out that Milagros' Spanish Restaurant has a new owner; rave review from last weekend from  foodie friends. Went in for take-out [para llevar] lunch today after working in Hartford. Met Ellie, new chef/owner, and had a wonderful discussion about food, Puerto Rico, Hartford and on and on. She is charming and well a fantastic cook also.

I ordered the ribs [costillas] with yellow rice [arroz con gandules] and some plaintain [$8]. This was a   huge amount of delicious food for the money. If you think you have had good costillas, just come here and eat the best! The rice was moist and delicious, the platano maduro will be fried up again later with a little honey. Also got a gift of Flan Cake. I have had flan and tres leches cake and love them both. Ellie calls this a personal dessert; a great mixture of flan and cake sort of a Boricua cupcake.

Top review from 3/9/13 and since then members of family and friends have eaten there three times. So I had to go back today.
Chimichurri Steak Sandwich w/Tostones
Three of us ate here today. One had the BBQ Chicken meal with yellow rice and tostones [$8]. Second had a Burrito with fiesta rice [$6]. I had the [cube]steak sandwich which had some chimichurri and lots of good coleslaw with a few tostones. Sandwich was very tasty but a bit dry and I only ate the bottom half of the bun. All the meals came with a crock of delicious Meatball and Rice Soup. For the money, you can't beat the place but I would stick with the typically Puerto Rican food. The chicken looked good and I love Ellie's version of yellow rice and gandules. I still have to try the Monfongo so will be back. But the Pernil had just come out of the oven, just sayin'!!!
