Bobby's Burger Palace

Ate here again today. Three of us! a Philadelphia with griddled onions, provolone cheese and hot peppers, a Topless 4 Cheese [December Special] and my NapaValley which had fresh goat cheese, watercress and Meyer Lemon honey mustard. All of the above rated excellent [still $7.50]. Also got sides of Sweet Potato Fries and Onion Rings. I would skip both next time [or just get the regular fries] and concentrate on the fab burgers.
The place was packed and the ordering line was very long. But we survived [after a long wait for our orders] and it was worth it.

9/25/09
Bobby's Burger Palace at Mohegan Sun Casino serves some good burgers and fries. Vanna White had been good to me with her Wheel of Fortune slot machine and 'bought' me lunch [and a bunch of other money too!].

On a recommendation from a neighbor I tried the L.A. Burger [$7.50]: Avocado Relish/Watercress/Cheddar Cheese/Tomato over a certified Angus beef burger on a store made sesame roll. The Fries [$2.50] served with BBP Fry Sauce [chipotle mayo?] were about the best fries I have had. This was washed down with an Iced Tea [$2.50].

You order at the front counter, get a number and find a place at a table or the long undulating counter. They cook everything to order so it takes a bit but it is well worth the wait!

blognote: they also serve a topless burger [any variety on the menu] on a bed of greens [diet??]

Tim Hortons

Just a quick mention and heads up to Tim Hortons' new menu items: Croissants and 'European Style' Danish. I have had the croissants twice and they are as close to Paris [without the flight] that you can get around here. The danish are excellent. Tried a chocolate one yesterday; they come in several choices and are braided and flaky. Their coffee is good also!

The Student Prince

Christmas lunch today at The Student Prince in Springfield, Massachusetts. The restaurant was decorated beautifully for the holidays. There are so many rooms there you can get lost; we sat in the Annex room which was nice and private.

We both ordered from the daily specials and were very pleased with the offerings: Veal Sage Sausages with sauerkraut and buttered noodles and my German Sampler. The sampler had good sized tastes of Bratwurst, Goulash and Roast Pork with sauerkraut and the buttered noodles. I had a Weiss Bier [wheat beer] to accompany my lunch. Rye and Pumpernickel breads at the table [the rye was my favorite]. The dessert menu made for very hard choices but we settled on a shared Flourless Chocolate Torte. The torte was moist and had a delicious chocolate frosting along with the whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. Glad we decided to split one dessert. Fresh brewed coffee was added to the end of a great meal.

blognote: Next time I will go for dinner and use the valet parking. We used street parking two blocks away because the restaurant gets packed at lunch. Fort Street is one-way which adds another dimension to finding a parking place.

j. gilbert's

j. gilbert's tonight for a birthday meal [not mine however].
They really need someone to jazz up the menu details. The food far exceeds the description.

For example: one of the two featured dinner selections was Pan Seared Nantucket "Sugar Drop" Scallops served with roasted butternut squash and celery root hash with chorizo sautéed asparagus and chanterelle mushrooms finished with a lemon-thyme beurre blanc. This could just have easily said that this dish is the most delicious thing being served tonight bar none...and it was and it was what I ordered. Yes! [$28.50] I ordered a glass of Chilean reserve Sauvignon Blanc [$7.50] and a perfect match.

The three of us each started with the requisite Shrimp Cocktail which is also the best shrimp cocktail served anywhere in northern hemishpere [$13.95] Also great sourdough bread and whipped butter.

The other two entrées were the Filet Oscar [$29.95] and the 10oz Top Sirloin with Salt Potato [$22.50].
One dessert the Almond Tuile Cannoli [$7] and a Cappuccino [$3.95].

Brooklyn Art Museum Café

We didn't eat at Judy Chicago's installment 'The Dinner Party' [shown here] but we did eat successfully at the Café.

Both of us had the 'sandwich of the day' which was a Shrimp BLT. Shrimp and bacon on the grill with the usual lettuce and tomato on white toast. This was notched up a step with chipotle mayo and a pear and gorgonzola field green salad with a cranberry vinaigrette. A surprisingly nice meal in a great museum.
