Delightful Christmas dinner today with friends at the Copper Beach Inn in Ivoryton, CT.
The offering for the day was a prix-fixe four course meal [$68]. My meal consisted of first course: Seared Foie Gras on brioche toast, fig jam and pomegranate seeds [excellent], second course: Potage of Winter Vegetables with toasted pumpkin seeds and herbed crème fraiche [aggressively spiced but underwhelming] and the third course: Honey Roasted Half Duck with dried fruit and an orange sauce served with a sweet potato gratin [excellent]. The dessert was a slice of Yule Log which we had packaged and took home. I accompanied the meal with a glass of Syrah [$14]. Others at the table had the Spiced Grilled Prawn [excellent], the Basque Seafood Bisque [very good], the Beet Carpaccio [good] and the Seared Stonington Scallops [excellent]. All is all, a wonderful meal, window view, good service, excellent crusty grainy rolls and very good service. They were filled up with tables of varying sizes and a long list of reservations. Hopefully this trend of offering an excellent of holidays will continue to grow!
