Happy Birthday Julia Child

Julia Child's spirit must be so happy and perhaps a bit amused that so many people remember her birthday by hosting a dinner. She must be especially happy that Chef Tyler Anderson of Millwright's is one of those! I attended the second dinner that he hosted on, of course, August 15th of this year, 2015. It was just as extraordinary as last year and maybe even better if that were possible.

Started with a cornbread and herbed butter and a glass of Prosecco.

Then on to a gorgeous Salade Niçoise of seared tuna, haricots vert, olives, potato cubes and the best eggs ever. Served with a 2012 Chateau La Berriere, Muscadet Serre et Maine.

One of my favorites that I have not had for ages was a Pissaladiere with anchovy, marvelous caramelized onions and thyme served with a 2012 L'Agape Vin d'Alsace Pinot Gris.

Then the Bouillabaisse with clams, mussels, shrimp, a superb scallop in a tomato broth with a rouille crouton. I love rouille! This was served with a 2013 Domaine Dichon, Moulin-a-Vent Gamay.

I had been waiting for this course ever since I read the menu online. The final savory course was a Daube de Boeuf shortrib with rice, olives, orange and capers and served with a 2012 Chateau Pegau, Côtes-du-Rhone. This wine was our favorite on a riverboat down the Seine visiting Impressionist Art sites and brought back wonderful memories.

The dessert was awaited by my guest who fell in love with clafoutis on our trip to Paris. This was a Cherry Clafoutis served with a Domaine La Tour Vielle, Banyuls. It was the best!
