Yardbird

Had read about Yardbird in the New York Times a week or two before arriving in Miami so really wanted to eat here. We were an hour late because of Urban Beach Week traffic but they kept our table ready for us!

Mama's Fried Chicken
Sat next to a great couple [Florida/California] and ended up sharing their Whole Roasted Cauliflower [$12] and yes it did look a lot like a zombie brain [but that's another story]! For our apps [and we didn't share a bite] were: Fried Green Tomato BLT [$12] so good, so good. As it says on the wall: 'God gave angels the wings and us the bacon'. Then some Mama's Chicken Biscuits [$12] for fried chicken piece in a buttermilk biscuit with pepper jelly. Just the right amount to start you on your journey to heaven. 'There  are only two kinds of people; those who love fried chicken and communists'. The salad was fresh tomatoes and farm cheese with watermelon [$15].

Zombie Brain

For our entrées and yes we both had an entrée: Slow Braised Cochon [$20] of Berkshire pig, plaintain BBQ sauce, crispy pig's ears, grilled grits and Creole squash slaw. This whole package went home with us as we were getting slightly full. BUT the best was yet to come: Sweet Tea-Brined Southern Ribs [$27] smothered in homemade BBQ and pickled chiles. Yes, yes, yes!

Oh, and let's not forget dessert. Blueberry Pie [$8] and not at all excited when it was ordered but it was the best of the best of the best. And my Banana Cream Pie in a mason jar with shortbread sticking out of it. What a night. They turned the table on our right twice and the one on the left once; we ate for two hours.
