The Russell

It wasn't Paris; it was Hartford!
A gorgeously sunny day, no flight, no €, no security lines.
Sitting outside with a view of Hartford 21, we enjoyed several cups of excellent coffee and split a crêpe. The crêpe was filled with thin sliced ham and white cheddar and accompanied by aioli and fresh fruit [$10].

blognote: We were downtown for the India Festival at the Riverfront Plaza. We found The Russell on our mid-festival walk around town.

California Pizza Kitchen

Haven't been here for a looooooong while but visited today. We were looking for the Peking Duck pizza [yes, it existed and was wonderful] but it is no longer on the menu.

So we had two pizzas: a BLT [$10.79] and the Thai Chicken [$12.49]. The BLT was just like what it says - bacon, lettuce and tomato and it worked. The Thai Chicken had a good bite to it with carrots and peanuts to complete the taste. The two pizzas were just about the right amount for the three of us.

La Fonda

Stopped in again tonight after a movie at Real Art Ways for some Tostones and some Empanadas [pollo y carne de res]. One beer and a glass of Zinfandel and the bill came to $14.09. This is a place that I will return to often. Nice people. good food.

8/9/08 Taste of Hartford strikes again!

Tonight we ate at La Fonda in Hartford. The $20.08 price really got us a lot of good food.
Started with Tropical Fruit Juice prepared with water or milk Mango, Passion fruit, Guanabana, Lulo, Guayaba, Strawberry or Mora. I had the Mango with water, the other two orders were Lulo and Guanabana with milk. We ended up trading a bit but were very satisfied. Then on to a Carta Blanca beer each.
The appetizer was a Beef Empanada Or Chicken Empanada and Fried Green Plantain with Hogao Sauce [Tostonciitos].
We all had the same entrée of Bandeja Montañera: Rice, Red Beans, pork rind, grilled steak, sweet plantain, egg and pork sausage.
For dessert we all had the Rice Pudding as they were out of the Figs with White Cheese.

Great meal, great price and great service [anyone who understands my Spanish is great]!

Closed Mondays but open late the rest of the week.

blognote: Bandeja paisa, also known as bandeja de arriero or bandeja montañera, is a typical dish of the Antioquian kitchen. It could be said that a fundamental characteristic of this dish is its enormous abundance in amount and variety of foods.
