Take-Out during the #rona Times...

Meals are being delivered here at CLOC and they are doing a wonderful job but sometimes you need something different. The above meal consists of fruit cup and salad from CLOC, avocado from Stop and Shop and Sardines from Ocean State Job Lot.  This entry will highlight restaurants that offering take-out. This list will continue until we are able to eat out in the restaurants that are on our hit lists. I do suggest that we add all of these to-go places to that hit list as they have gone far and beyond to keep us fed.

RUBY TUESDAY

Specials every Tuesday [easy to remember] and a Blackened Fish Sandwich on Friday with a choice of Fries or Tater Tots.

blognote: Ruby Tuesday is located in front of the new Shop Rite

RAIL99 TAVERN

Full menu and nightly specials that can be ordered by phone at 4pm and picked up from 5 to 8 weekdays. Call for weekend hours. The Ribs special was good with its mac and cheese, cornbread and corn on the cob.
blognote: Rail 99 is located at 1 Wall Street [around the corner from ABC Pizza] call 860.807.3733

Stop and Shop HISSHO SUSHI

The Krunchy Krab was very good. They have a large fresh selection with raw and cooked seafood and a vegetarian option. Seaweed salad is also available.

WANG CHINESE RESTAURANT

The lunch menu here is extensive. I opted for General Tso's Chicken which was super. It came with a very fresh egg roll [opted not to get the soup for transit reasons] and pork fried rice in a large portion. It even included the fried noodle, dipping sauce and a fortune cookie. I am ordering from there again on Monday.
So Monday's meal was just as delicious. Three of us [resident/relataives] shared another General Tso's Chicken and a Sesame Chicken. Don't know which I like better as they both are very good.

REOPENED!

ZERIO'S

Haven't been here since they won my informal Summer Lobster Roll challenge. They had one on the menu today for take-out but I ordered a hard roll Sandwich of Capicolla with red onion, roasted peppers, provolone cheese and oil/vinegar. It was a lot bigger than I thought it would be and was delicious. Also got a small tub of egg/potato salad for later tonight. I just appeared and got what I wanted but many people had called ahead and their food was ready. Will do that next time!
blognote: Zerio's is located in the Willowbrook Plaza real easy to get to from campus.

AMBROSIA

Tried out the pizza at Ambrosia in town for lunch. Had a medium cheese with sausage and mushrooms. Tasted real good. Easy in and out. Right next to the Liberty Bank branch so you can use your ATM if needed [or you just need cash].
blognote: The website link goambrosia.com is broken so just call 860.635.2224

 LA PIASTRA

The dinner for tonight that I ate it before I could even get a picture! The salmon was a perfect cut for one with a covering of roasted tomatoes and onions. I served this with some leftover potatoes that I pan fried in butter with more onions and green pepper. The sauce from the salmon dish really hyped up my veggies. Love this place as I can get single serve portions of gourmet to go.
So the next day I had the Turkey Meatball and Lentil Stew for lunch and it was very good and filling. I accompanied it with a rye roll from the Rockland Bakery that I had on hand.

blognote: I go to the Rocky Hill site as it is very close to my cottage. There is also site in Glastonbury. #lapiastra

Ordered online and set pick-up time so it was ready when I got there at the Wethersfield location [there are others]. Had the Dazed and Confused Rice Bowl [instead of the Barely Legal one I usually have] with the mushrooms instead of platanos. Think I will go back to my favorite or get a side order of the platanos. There was certainly enough to eat...Rotisserie Chicken, Crispy Brussels, seared Mushrooms, Caramelized Onion, Grilled Corn, Pico de Gallo, Queso Fresco, Pickled Onion, Citrus Aioli!!!

THE WELL
Dinner last night was take-out from The Well Pub on Main Street in Cromwell. Orders taken over the phone [860.632.8682] starting at 3pm and pick up starts at 5. The fish was fresh black cod and was delicious.
Easy in and easy out. They post their nightly specials on their Face Book page [no website].

99 RESTAURANT

Got my first Lobster Roll of the season. This time it was take-out of course. The picture on the website looked good and the finished product was just as delicious looking There were at least four large claw pieces and plenty of lobster bits. I chose to get two orders of coleslaw [good] instead of the fries as the #rona is doing a job on my weight if I am not careful. The only problem was the bun did not it in terrific condition due to traveling on home. It was a bit expensive but it was worth it! Easy pick up in the parking lot after ordering it online. Got a 10% discount for setting up the online ordering procedure.

JEFFERSON FRY CO.

Had a picnic lunch in the sun on 5 de Mayo with an order of Taco Fries. They were delightful  and served up a huge helping of fries smothered in taco sauce, beef chili, tomatoes, onions, shredded cheese and jalapeños. Sitting outside at a picnic table in the parking lot which had been converted to an al fresco paradise. I usually get the Pesto Mayo fries but opted for these to celebrate! Click the hyperlink above and order for pick-up.

PICNIC BASKET

Confession: I have driven past this little place so many times but was always put off by the word 'catering' on their sign. Well today I wandered in and to my very great surprise there were so many meals-to-go to choose from I went a little bit wacky and loaded up for a while. No one was there and masks in place I had a great discussion with the chef/owner. Sunday dinner will be Moroccan Chicken and couscous and Sunday dinner it was. I sautéed the chicken mixture with the couscous in a little olive oil. Perhaps I should have baked it in the oven but it was delicious anyway. Ate it with some pita bread that I 'toasted' in the juices in the sauté pan and half an avocado. Was so excited I didn't even to take a photo first!

Did manage to take a picture of the Cheese Tortellini with Bolognese Sauce before devouring it. Great meal and still have half for lunch another day!

Stopped for lunch today and split two sandwiches from the specials board. They were a Pulled Pork with coleslaw on an onion roll and a Brisket with caramelized onions on ciabatta. Both were delicious and we ate them sloppily on one of the two small tables in front of the store.

TALL MAN'S HOMEMADE ICE CREAM

Just the right afternoon to try out this new place in Cromwell. You can't miss the bright blue shop with the very tall sign indicating their claim to fame. The ice cones can be as tall as you want and the ice cream is home made. I tried the Peanut Butter and Jelly flavor which was surprisingly light. It had a very nice blend of peanut butter, chopped peanuts and bits of jelly. My hostess tried the Black Cherry Vanilla and was quite pleased. We both had the small portions with mine in a cup and hers in a cone. The seating in back was comfortable under a big roof and four tables set into a socially distanced pattern. Note: no website yet but available on FaceBook.

KOB JAI THAI

Had take-out last night from Kob Jai Thai and Pho Restaurant in Rocky Hill. I called in and they met me with the food and transferred to my car. Ordered the Garlic Duck with the black pepper sauce. It came over steamed vegetables and a side of white rice. It was good but would have been so much better in the dining room or even in the parking lot [a little messy...]. I waited until I got home so it could be plated properly. I was hoping for a taste like the Black Pepper Port in Myanmar but I am here not there and that is really a different dish. My favorite dish at Kob Jai is Pad See Eew [N7] but was looking for something a bit more substantial.

RIVER'S EDGE MEDITERRANEAN CUISINE

Love this place and have missed it during the #rona times. Finally got to get some terrific take-out tonight and ate it on a porch in neighboring West Hartford. Started with the Mediterranean Platter: Tahouli, Hoummous, Grape Leaves, Baba Ghanoush, Felafel, Salada Baladi and Tahini with Pita. Main course was the  Moroccan Lamb Tagine with Lemon Confit sauce, Vegetables, Dried Apricot, Plums, Pine Nuts and Harissa sauce. What a terrific meal and I even had a coupon for a 15% discount. Everything was ready and waiting wrapped to go and fresh and hot.

BLUE LOBSTER

The lobster wasn't blue but happy to see me. Having lunch with social distancing here is very easy. Drive up and the Menu is printed on the outside wall. The server came up to the car and took my order for a Hot Buttered Lobster Roll with no fries but sub two Coleslaw. The order did not take long while I sat at one of the several shade umbrella'd picnic table. At first I was not impressed with the look of the lobster as there were no large pieces. It did, however, turn out to be quite flavorful and buttery while the roll was surely fine. Would definitely go back but this was my first time in #rona times. The Fisherman's Platter at another table looked fine.
