Sauce [revisited]

Went to Sauce again; for lunch this time. Had a much better meal than the dinner last month [see review below].

Bread on the table with side dishes of sauce [get it, Sauce!] and this was a very nice touch. Also ended up ordering a dish of 'House Chips'; they were the thick home-made kind and very filling.
Entrées:
Grilled Chicken Sandwich with caramelized onions, ripe tomato, fontina, arugula $8.95
Sauce Club of roasted chicken, roast beef, prosciutto, provolone, peppers, tomato and baby greens $10.95
Three Cheese Individual Pizza with parmesan, fontina, provolone, san marzano tomatoes, fresh basil $9.95
and my Lemon Basil Chicken Salad Panini with ripe tomatoes and baby greens $7.95

bloginfo: all sandwiches and panini come with a Pasta Salad or Chips. The pasta salad was exceptional for a side and included a portion of Field Greens also. Both were drizzled with a well seasoned dressing.

blognote: Service was good and the improvement in the dining experience over last time will definitely make me return!

After Theater Works' production of 'Blackbird' we went to Sauce in Glastonbury. I had been wanting to go there for quite a while. This afternoon, a fund raiser was just finishing up so it was quite noisy even though they sat us in the farthest corner possible.

Started outside on the terrace with a Campari and Soda [too much soda]. The others had some good wines: Chardonnay Cantele and Chianti Borga.

We split salads for appetizers: Baby Spinach with sun dried tomato vinaigrette, polenta crouton, goat cheese {$8.50] and a Sicilian Wedge of crisp iceberg lettuce, grape tomatoes, creamy garlic gorzonola and bacon chips [$7.95]. Good focaccio and bread to start with roasted tomato sauce [we asked for olive oil]

Entrées: Wild Mushroom Gnocchi: roasted wild mushrooms and braised butter leeks, tossed with potato gnocchi, chives and truffle oil [$18.95]; Sauce Bolognese: beef, pork and veal bolognese served with over-sized rigatoni, topped with fresh ricotta and parmesan [$19.95]; Broccoli Rabe & Sausage: sweet sausage, sautéed broccoli rabe, tossed with garlic. olive oil and orecchiette [$16.95]. My entrée was Gorgonzola Bucatini: sautéed chicken, prosciutto, sweet onions, broccoli tossed with bucatini [$19.95].

Dessert menu looked interesting but skipped that course.

bloginfo: Sauce is located on Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury, CT. Telephone 430.5940
Website: sauce
blofnote: while everyhing was prepared fresh and tasted delicious, nothing was truly special
I might try their Ciccchetti [small plates] with wine another time

Elizabeth's

Good bread, pesto and roasted garlic in olive oil. What a great way to start a meal. We were at Elizabeth's in Tariffville after Hartford Stage's production of 'The Milk Train Doesn't Stop Here Anymore' with Olympia Dukakis.
Then a Landshark beer from Margaritaville Brewery.

There was the usual soup or salad choice and I had the Bean and Bacon soup [not memorable].
Entrées were -
Veal Calabrese [$15.95]: sautéed veal medallions with prosciutto ham, sun-dried tomatoes, kalamata olives, and escarole in a lemon, sherry wine sauce over linguini
Giobatto [$15.95]: sautéed chicken and veal, hot sausage, onions, grilled red peppers simmered in a veal glaze & tomato sauce with fresh herbs over fettuccini
and my Chicken ala Italia [$13.95]: sautéed chicken with capers, red roasted peppers, artichoke hearts, Greek olives, and spinach in a garlic, tomato sauce served over linguini.

bloginfo: Elizabeth's is at 32 Main Street in Tariffville
Open daily, telephone 651.4214
blognote: good, hearty, fresh food served in a homey atmosphere

Wang Palace

Good lunch today at an old favorite: Wang Palace in Glastonbury at 2333 Main Street.

One entrée of Triple Delight with shrimp, chicken and pork [$5.75]. My entrée was a Special of the Day: Vietnamese Style Chargrilled Shrimp over rice noodles and lettuce with a sprinkling of chopped peanuts served with sweet garlic sauce [$6.50].

These came with excellent fried noodles, tea and soup [egg drop, hot sour or wonton]. Their wonton soup is excellent.

blofinfo: Open 7 days a week.

blognote: A great meal for a good price with fast service. We always enjoy it here.

Bravo @MFA/Boston

Went to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston today to see the 'El Greco to Velázquez' Exhibit. We ate at Bravo, the second floor restaurant and had a wonderful meal.

A Taste of España was the special prix fixe lunch of the day for $24.

Started with good, crusty bread and butter. A glass of Segura Viudas Aria Estate Brut Sparkling - Cava for me. A glass of Martinsancho Verdejo Perellada 2006 - Penedes for my tablemate.

Entrada: Chilled Tangerine and Red Wine Soup [great]
Plato: Roasted Pork Belly, Manzanilla Olives over Frisée [super]
Postre: Almond Blanc Mange over Caramel Sauce with Honey Wafer [just a taste]

Then cups of good coffee.

bloginfo: Very nicely decorated room [pumpkin cream walls] with comfortable seating. Excellent service as Xavier was especially knowledgeable of the menu and the paired wine choices.
blognote: The exhibit was excellent but the large paintings were poorly lit with ceiling light reflections obscuring some details.

Nordstrom Café

Lunch today at the Nordstrom Café at Westfarms Mall in Farmington, CT

Started with the soup of the day: Tomato Basil Bisque; delicious, thick and tasty [$3.50]. Served with a gigantic parmesan crouton.

Entrées were: Lime Cilantro Chicken Salad of field greens, corn, pumpkins seeds and, of course, chicken with a super dressing. Very nice [$8.95].
Salmon Niçoise Salad over field greens with a perfectly grilled piece of salmon, haricot verts, roasted potato chunks, calamata olives and roasted peppers. Great dressing and a sweet meal with the two rolls and butter [$10.25].
Drinks were Saratoga sparkling water in their svelte blue bottles. No dessert!

blognote: Esther waited on our table; she has been there since the Café opened and she is a doll.
