Nothing Fishy @Saybrook Fish House

The WBs took me to dinner at the Saybrook Fish House in Wethersfield tonight. It's located on the Silas Deane Highway; been there for years and has really come into its prime.

Started with two orders of Lobster Bisque which were superb. Bread basket held three types of Bread: White, Dark rye and Nut/raisin. Salad served family style with the two original dressings: Champagne Vinaigrette and Creamy Garlic.

There were three specials for entrées and we each ordered one of them. JB had the Swordfish stuffed wth Artichokes and Sun DriedTomatoes served with Sweet Potato Mash. WB had the MahiMahi with a Rum Glaze, Corn Relish and Mashed Potatoes. I had the Shrimp Mykonos which consisted of six extra large Shrimp, Feta Cheese, Calamata Olives and Sun Dried Tomatoes over Fettucine. The steamed Vegetables were served family style.

We didn't order dessert but the meals come with a Fruit/Nut/Cheese Basket with lots of fresh goodies: Pineapple, Melon, Watermelon, etc.........

The winners were the three Special Entrées and the Lobster Bisque.

Frankly Speaking @Franco's

Celebrating my birthday again; boy am I milking this one....
Ate here today with BF and GC after Hartford Stage's 'Floyd and Clea Under the Western Sky', good show!

Started with a basket of Bread and a Salad each; Peppercorn, French and Creamy Italian dressings.

Then BF had the Chicken Marsala, GC had the Chicken Cordon Bleu in an awesome Creamy Cheese Sauce and I had the Eggplant Parmigiana with a side of Ziti and Sauce. The servings are huge and we have enough to feed us all for the coming week.

The owner, S, said that they were offering a free pastry with an order of coffee. We were quite excited about a nice Italian pastry for dessert. The desserts turned out to be a slice of Raspberry Swirl Entenmann boxed coffee cake. NOT what we expected and a bit of a letdown after such a nice meal. But it WAS free!

The winner was the Eggplant and the Cheese Sauce.

Keep eating here at Franco's Restaurant in Cromwell with younger son, KF, and always forget to blog it. Well here goes.....

I ordered the dinner special of Eggplant Florentine which was served as an oven casserole with layers of Breaded Eggplant, Spinach, Red Sauce and lots of Cheese. This came with Ziti and Sauce, Salad and Bread. KF ordered the Seafood Medley of large and baby Shrimp, Scallops and Crabmeat in a Sherry Wine/Newburg sauce over Spaghetti. He had Onion Soup instead of a Salad.

We both had plenty to take home as the portions are very large.

The winners were both of the Entrées.

Happy Birthday at Max Amoré

Celebrated two birthdays tonight at MaxAmoré in Glastonbury. BLD and Mofongoman were the celebrants and JD was the 'innocent' onlooker.

Started with the requisite Roasted Garlic, basket of Bread and Foccacio, Olives [and Gherkins, NEW] and great Olive Oil.

Appetizers were Fried Calamari with Hot Peppers and Pecan Crusted Goat Cheese [a special for the night]. Two glasses of Pinot Grigio and a glass of Pinot Noir for me.

They split an Insalate Cesare and I had the Insalate della Casa with Gorgonzola.

The entrées were Peppered Pappardelle with Prosciutto [JD], Baked Penne with Boboletti [BD] and Fettucine Gamberi with a Pesto Cream Sauce [6 large shrimp].

Three Cappucinos and a split of Budino Cioccolatte for them and White Chocolate Gelato with a Chocolate Chip Cookie for me was the dessert course.

What a meal! Very nice restaurant and we sat in a booth which we prefer. The waitperson, Michael, was very attentive.

The winners were the three Pastas and the Chocolate dessert.

Rojo Mexican Lobster???

Younger son,KF, and I were out for a good dinner and looking for Mexican food. On the Border in Wethersfield was jampacked on a Thursday so we went down the street to www.redlobster.com .

We got a booth after only a five minute wait. Lela, our server, greeted us and continued to charm us through the whole meal. She is the epitome of a good waitperson!

First to arrive with our drinks was a basket of the famous and delicious Cheese Biscuits. Started with the New England Sampler for a shared appetizer. This consisted of Bacon-wrapped Sea Scallops; Lobster, Crab and Seafood Stuffed Mushroom Caps and Fried Clam Strips [$7.99].

KF had the Broiled Seafood Platter: Bay Scallops, Shrimp Scampi and Stuffed Fish and a Salt Baked Potato [$13.75]. I had the Beer Battered Fish and Chips [$13.75]. Both entrées came with a side Garden Salad.

Skipped dessert and took a large portion of Fish and Chips home along with three Cheese Biscuits.

Lunch on the run.........

Needed a quick lunch today between a massage and an eye doctor's appointment so I stopped in again at BrewBakers on Main Street [see detail of restaurant below].

I had a Decaf Coffee, Sweet Potato/Sausage Soup and a Cornmeal Bagel toasted with butter. It was all delicious if a little rushed.

The winner was EVERYTHING! [and it only cost $6.61]

Originally blogged as '2 decaf, please' in November last year.

Best place for coffee in Middletown is BrewBakers on Main Street. Went there today again. Too cold to sit outside at an umbrella table [great iced coffee in the summer though] but it was nice and warm inside. Got one free coffee with my completed 10 punched Coffee Club card. It wasn't Tuesday or Wednesday so no Senior Discount.

Everyone is so nice there; a great place to relax. They have bagels, sandwiches, salads, soups and desserts. The desserts come from Tuscany Grill just across the alley. [http://www.tuscany-grill.com] We have to go eat at Tuscany Grill again to blog it and also the sister establishment Baci Grill near our house. [www.bacigrill.com and then on to the extension www.bacigrill.com/brewbakers.html for info on the coffee house]

BrewBakers is located at 169 Main Street, Middletown, CT 06457, telephone 860.852.0001.

And the winner is: a grilled ASIAGO BAGEL with butter

Todd English's Tuscan Table

Second Time: Table for One

Spent the day at the Mohegan Sun Casino to celebrate Columbus Day [and too lazy to go to the gym].

Same buffet setup but with different entrées [see August review below]. There was a choice of Chicken Cacciatori [falling off the bone], Pork Saltimbocca [a little too dry], Mussels and Beef with Fried Rice which I didn't try].

The interesting salads were Beets with Walnuts and Haricot Verts with Salmon [delicious].

The soup was Butternut Squash, velvet perfection!

The dessert table had a large selection but the best was the Peppered Walnut Cheesecake [creamy, crunchy, sweet and snappy].

The price was still $16.95 but I jazzed that up with a nice glass of Syrrah [$9] and coffee with dessert.

The winners were the Buttternut Squash Soup and the Peppered Walnut Cheesecake.

Casino wise: I left money to win back on my next visit!

Lunch today with the BLDs at Tuscany at the Mohegan Sun Casino. There sure have been a few blogs lately with crew of three! And more to come....

The Tuscan Table is a very civilized buffet at the above mentioned restaurant. It is hidden behind the waterfall and actually seats not as many as I thought it might.

I first saw the menu online at todd_english and the price being only $16.98 decided we should give it a try. Good decision!

There were several Appetizer Salads: Tomato Capri, Caesar, Beet, and Pasta. The soup of the day was Potato Leek. There were various types of Stone Pies.

The entrées were Roast Beef, Smoked Pork and Tenderloin Tips all prepared on the Tuscan grill. The quality of the meat was fantastic and each won a prize for flavor. There were also Mussels, Pasta Bolognese and Roasted Potatoes.

The dessert table excelled in calories and the chef is having a summer love affair with the flavor of lemon. There were, of course, the offerings for the chocaholics with chocolate filled Profiteroles sitting next to a pitcher of hot fudge sauce. Also berries, berries, berries!

The winners were the variety, preparation and quality of the entire 'buffet.'

Casino wise: BD got a quarter for his collection [and it cost him a bit; but he was happy], I broke even after winning 'big' a few times, and JD came home with $60 [and we aren't speaking to her anymore].

Quiznos passes the test

Younger son, KF, and brother-in-law, BD, visited today to help me out in rearranging furniture, doing electrical work and putting down a new floor in the bathroom. So, of course, we had to go out and have lunch...

Went to quiznos down the street in Cromwell. We have visited there many times but not the three of us together. KF had the Chicken Carbonara sub, BD and I had the Chicken Cabo sub [he had a small! and I had the regular size but ended up taking half of it home for supper]. The Chicken Cabo has the best of all worlds: Guacamole and Bacon! And it also has Chipotle mayonaisse. And it's toasted and then lots of veggies are added, even onions. What could be a better lunch?

The whole deal of three subs, three soft drinks and a bag of Baked Chips came to less than $20.

The winner was the whole deal, the whole schmear, the whole lunch. Who's ecstatic?
